// Feature Match - Green Leaf (Green) v Isle Finest (Gold) // Venue – West Woodside // Attendance – 45 Staring Line Ups Green Leaf. Ed Dixon Connor Hunt Ross Williams Matt Fowler Joe Simmons Isle Finest FC Tom Shaw Kyle Bennett Jordan Prendergast Chris Wilson Dan Verrechia The Cosmic Football League Cup saw the leagues top two take centre stage for the 8.45 Kick-Off. ‘Isle Finest F.C’ battling back from 3-2 down at half time to beat ‘Green Leaf F.C’ 7-5. Doing so taking a big step on the long quest for the silverware. It took 4 minutes for Kyle Bennett to comfortably find the bottom left corner of Ed Dixons net. 1-0 Isle Finest. The goal shocking Green leaf, who sharply responded with 2 quick fire goals when a Ross Williams effort rebounded, Joe Simmons picked up the pieces with that ever so prolific left foot finding the top corner of Tom Shaws Goal. Moments later Matt Fowler latched onto a long ball, effortlessly combing precision and power to swing the game in Green Leafs favour. Simmons found Fowler in Space on the right; he tucked home again, with 2 goals in 2 minutes you can see why Green Leaf fought to bring him into the squad over the summer transfer window. At 3-1 down Isle Finest bring Jack Tuhey on to steady the ship. Some neat team work led to Dan Verrechia bursting into a pocket of space, he proved he’s more than capable of a cool finish slotting the ball home to make it 3-2. Green leaf looked to have made it 4-2 before half time only for the ref to decide the whole of the ball had not crossed the line. After Tom Shaw made a couple of fine stops early in the second half to keep Isle Finest in the game, it was Jordan Prendergast who levelled the score at 3-3, just 2 minutes into the 2nd half sending Ed Dixon the wrong way in Green Leafs goal. Ed Dixon then went onto flicking a smart shot by K.Bennett onto the bar, seconds later pulling the ball from the bottom corner to deny Dan Verrechia of a second goal. T.Shaw at the opposing end proving why the golden glove award was his last season twice seeing off efforts from Connor Hunt. The game poised at 3-3 with 10 minutes to play. Seconds after Jack Tuhey cursed as he felt the astro turf / skin combination, Verrechia guided the ball home after a powerful run down the right. 4-3 to those in gold, with game going from end to end as Dixon denied Jordan Prendergast. Rob Watson who was along side me, envisaged in the action, states ‘It’s like watching tennis.’ Joe Simmons using that left foot to full effect for the 2nd time made the score 4 all. Seconds later Simmons light up the crowd with a tasty flick and volley only to be denied by ever sharp Tom Shaw. Beautifully poised at 4 goals a piece Connor Gresham drew the foul from Matt Fowler, from the following free kick Dan Verrechia made it 3 for himself on the night. 5-4, advantage Isle Finest. Chris ‘Sven’ Wilson comes onto the pitch only to slice wide after Prendergast unselfishly put it on a plate for him. It didn’t take long for Wilson to have an impact on the game though, netting the next goal. At 6-4 it was all Isle Finest. Scorer turned provider as Wilson Held the ball high up the pitch until Connor Gresham snuck into a hole outside the box and turned in Finests 7th of the night. ‘Heads have gone, the game has gone’ a comment from Charlie Hall with 4 minutes to go. A late penalty from green leaf tucked away by Matt Fowler pulled the score line back to 7-5, but the night was Isle Finests. Match Report By Harry Bullas.
