Featuring MFA alumnus Tyrone Brown - The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT, presented by Gay City Arts in the Calumus Auditorium Seattle, WA – October 14, 2014. Gay City Arts Second Season: Crossing the Line proudly presents The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT, featuring Tyrone Brown and the Nate Omdal Trio, for four performances only, November 14, 15, 21, and 22 at 7:30pm in the Calamus Auditorium at Gay City on Capitol Hill. The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT is a celebration of the life and music of William Thomas Billy Strayhorn (November 29, 1915 – May 31, 1967), an American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, arranger, and LGTBQ artist best known for his successful collaboration with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington lasting nearly three decades. The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT features Tyrone Brown (LGTBQ artist and lead vocals), Nate Omdal (music director and bass), Michael Owcharuk (piano), Jacques Willis (drums), playing original arrangements from the Billy Strayhorn songbook such as Take the A Train, Chelsea Bridge, and Lush Life.” The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT is presented as part of Gay City Arts 2014-2015 Season: Crossing the Line. Through Gay City Arts, Gay City collaborates with local LGBT artists to galvanize an audience for queer arts, foster the development of LGBT artists, and facilitate artistic excellence that is accessible. Gay City Arts is committed to presenting challenging, dynamic and excellent queer art across the full range of artistic disciplines from theater, dance, music, and performance art to spoken word, film/video, new media and interdisciplinary work.
