Federal Executive Council resolutions for Wednesday 5th June, 2013. : June 13th, 2013 : Federal Executive Council Resolutions While briefing reporters immediately after the Federal Executive Council Meeting, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku said the Minister/Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission, through his note apprised Council of the outcome of the 11th Plenary meeting of the Leading Group on Innovative Financing for Development, which was held in Finland on 6 February, 2012. That the Nigerian delegation was led by the Minister/Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission in which he was elected to take over the position of the Presidency of the Group from Finland. By that development, Nigeria has become the focal nation for promoting innovative financing mechanisms as an imperative in the emerging financial support paradigm, especially as creative measures are now required to meet the widening development funding gap. The Information Minister said we are expected to leverage our good standing in the comity of nations and deploy this Presidency to continue the advocacy for innovative financing mechanisms at the various sub-regional, regional and international development platforms like the ECOWAS, AU, G-77 and UN, to which we belong. According to Maku, there is need to galvanize support across government agencies to encourage Ministers, Envoys and Heads of Agencies to promote activities of the Leading Group at sub-regional and International fora during the tenure of Nigeria’s presidency. Maku said the Minister of Women Affairs through her note apprised council of the outcome of the 57th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women held from 4th to 15th March, 2013 at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, USA. The session’s priority theme was on “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls” with sub-theme on “The equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including care-giving in the context of HIV/AIDS” and focused emerging issue on “Key gender equality issues to be reflected in the Post-2015 development framework”. The council noted all the appraisals. Maku further told journalists that the Ministers of Power and Niger Delta Affairs briefed the Council on the progress and challenges of their ministries in the year 2012.
