Federal Judge Orders Sheriff Joe to Undergo “Training” for Absurd Reason... Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz., has been a consistent thorn in the side of the liberal establishment for over two decades now. He’s incurred the wrath of elected officials and judges from all over America who want to silence the sheriff on immigration and amnesty. Now, he’s been sentenced to “training” by U.S. District Court Judge Murray Snow to “show that his office will no longer single out Latinos during traffic and immigration stops.” (Translation: stop enforcing immigration law.) A gloating piece in Think Progress details the long struggle between Arpaio and Snow, in which the judge ruled that Arpaio’s police force had racially profiled Latinos while enforcing immigration law. The judge ordered Arpaio and the county’s officers to undergo training on “bias-free policing” as part of his ruling, instruction which included “role-playing scenarios, interactive exercises, and lecture formats.” In short, Sheriff Joe has been sentenced to a federally-mandated law enforcement version of those sensitivity training HR seminars you sleep through at work. Will he be forced to do a trust fall with an illegal alien behind him, too? For reasons painfully obvious to everyone that doesn’t write for Think Progress, Sheriff Joe found the mandate to be a preposterous waste of time and has yet to take the course. And, after being appraised that – quelle shock! - Arpaio and his deputy found the court order “absurd” and “ludicrous,” Judge Snow called them both before the bench to wag his finger at the two. “I will order Sheriff Arpaio to take the training,” Snow said. “I will order that today.” You better listen, Sheriff Joe. You better listen good. The court order by Judge Snow covers a number of other areas which don’t include role-playing exercises, including forcing police officers to radio their rationale for each and every traffic stop they make, and establishing a court monitor of the department and a community advisory board to oversee the department. (I’m pretty sure Maricopa County does have a “community advisory board.” It’s called the electorate, which has kept returning Sheriff Joe to office since 1992.) It’s amazing to see so much bureaucracy constructed to keep law enforcement from doing what they’re supposed to do – enforce laws. However, this is apparently easier than Democrats coming straight out and saying that they support open borders and amnesty. And while the attempt to change Sheriff Joe through a role-playing seminar is a joke, the constant assault by the left on the rule of law isn’t.
