Feeling a little guilty about our Bingo cat. This is a long story, but we first heard him and his litter mates meowing loudly coming from a building in Howe, Oklahoma that is used by the Howe Music Hall weekly gathering. We were visiting a friend in the vicinity and went inside to ask permission to check the attic of the building as that seemed to be where the meows were coming from. There was a dead cat in the road, obviously a lactating mother cat right in front of the building. We contacted the owner of the building and were denied permission to investigate.. So our friend in the area and Dave and I went over there well after dark with a ladder and gained access. Five little kittens, eyes not opened, screaming for help. We took them home and bottle fed them. Found homes for four but kept Bingo. He has never been quite right. Probably because he was not raised by his mother. He is not the best about grooming himself, but whenever Dave brushes him he loves it. Several years ago he developed a strange breathing sound that sounds like pigeons cooing and was lethargic. We took him to several vets in the area.....and cortisone seemed to help. He still sounds like a very loud pigeon cooing, but he is otherwise healthy. Thank you to the second vet who went ahead and gave us a second round of cortisone as opposed to euthanizing him as the first vet recommended when he refused to let us try another round of cortisone. So why am I feeling guilty? It just dawned on me that I really have not given him all the attention and love I could have/should have. He was sitting at me feet just now, making that annoying pigeon sound, and all he wanted was to be petted and scratched gently all over. And he DOES catch rodents.....bless his heart.
