Feeling good about ones self and self-esteem was proclaimed to be - TopicsExpress

Feeling good about ones self and self-esteem was proclaimed to be the cure all action and philosophy to solve all of the worlds problems for decades, yet sin and its results remain. Proverbs 20:9 says, Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? Proverbs 20:6, the first part says, Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness... Proverbs 21:2 says, Every way of man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. Paul has the perspective, not on selfs supposed goodness, but on the nature of sin in himself as it is in all of us: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing.... For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Also, O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. - Romans 7:18-25. Jesus says, He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. - John 12:25-26. As Christ is faithful to God His Father, so a faithful mans focus is not on self, but on Him! Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? - Proverbs 20:6.
