Feliz Grito! A versatile and experienced musician, Portland, Oregon based, Edna Vazquez not only spans styles and genres, but plays music in a variety of arrangements including performing solo, with the Edna Vazquez Quintet and with Mariachi Los Palmeros. She sings with a velvety voice and sometimes whistles the melodies to compliment her guitar. Edna performs original compositions that pay homage to her many Latin American influences and frequently mixes in her own arrangements of traditional songs to bring the feeling of Mexico’s Folkloric music to her audience. Edna Vazquez was born in the Mexican state of Colima but lived the first 16 years of her life in the state of Jalisco, a state that is world-renowned as the soul of Mexican mariachi music. At age 17 she left her native Mexico and traveled to the United States to start a career in the music business, and met with more success than she ever could have imagined. She found herself singing and playing music across the country in many different styles, strongly rooted in tradition but moving seamlessly through contemporary influences. Edna has achieved international exposure by singing on television shows like Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento in Los Angeles, California and Sábado Gigante Internacional con Don Francisco, where she won first prize with her rendition of Cucurrucucú Paloma accompanied by Mariachi Internacional in Miami, Florida.
