Fellow Cardinals of the Class of 1974, can you recall your emotions of these days, in your senior year, as we anxiously anticipated or feared our looming graduation from Clinton Senior High? There were 174 of us, in the largest, and, centennial, graduating class of CHS. Forty years since that June 4th, 1974 we have each experienced our share of joy, sorrow, achievement, failure, pride, shame, laughter, tears, good health, sickness, gain and loss, etc. and etc. How could all of those years have flown by so quickly? Just as in Spanish class so long ago, I must not have been paying close attention.. And in the midst of so many memories, from way back when, to now... I submit to you an Honor Roll of our CHS Class of 74, in order of their passing: David Lee Peek, d. Jun 1976 Jackie Dale Anderson, d. Dec 1979 Victor Allen Vic Houts, d. Jan 1981 George Brent Roberts, d. 1986 Duane D. D.D. Phelps, d. Feb 1994 Susan Jeanne Smitka, d. Jul 1998 Joseph Henry Pitts, d. Jul 2000 James Milton Mills, d. Dec 2002 Robert Neal Scrogham, Jr, d. Oct 2005 Scott Randel Shoemaker, d. Jan 2010 Connie Lyn Smith Mize, d. Jul 2013 Toward the end of her 94 years, my grandmother said she did not want to be forgotten; how grateful I am that I will never run out of so many years of blessed memories of her! But, unhappily, the names listed above represent lives we feel ended too soon, and so our memories are all the more precious and too few. Let us plan to gather together sometime soon, to make some more good memories of ourselves.. ((And my disclaimer: is there another name that should be added to our Honor Roll? And I apologize for any mistakes here, please post corrections.))
