Fellow FEDs, For the last few years Facebook has been the main - TopicsExpress

Fellow FEDs, For the last few years Facebook has been the main platform for communication for us. Along this time, our profession has changed somewhat, the content we talk about is different and the nature of the conversations shifted a bit. To adapt to the new era we (Yogev Ahuvia and Alex Wolkov) lunch a new community: FEDs on Slack, a community for Front End Developers on Slack. Some (but definitely not all) conversations are better be done on a real-time platform that allow instant reaction and in-place discussion. In the last year or so, platforms like Slack are rising steeply, and Slack specifically is the clear winner, just crossing the $1B evaluation mark. Slack is an amazing platform to converse and share knowledge with friends and colleagues, with some resemblance to the good old IRC days and added capabilities of a great-looking interface, highly searchable message history (as opposed to the sucky facebook group search), managed member profiles, real-time discussions (that could also be great for event or meetup coverages) and ultra smart external integrations and bots that can actually do what ever we program them to do! Oh and GIFs, lots and lots of GIFs! FEDs on Slack currently is an invite-only community, and everyone here is auto-approved! Some friends are already there and now we want everyone to join! We are very anxious about where this community could grow, and Slack is a very flexible platform, perfect for that. After we see the type of conversations the community creates, well add channels to allow more private rooms to chat about popular subjects. After the community stabilises, we plan to go international and add more FEDs worldwide. Think about it - we could be the best private party of the best client-side engineers in the world :) To join, just go to fedsonslack/ and fill out your email and name. Youll get an invitation email shortly after. Wed love you to come be a part of this community! P.S. Slack is available as a website, as a desktop app or mobile app for iPhone and Android. Dont worry about notifications, they are ultra-customizable.
