Fellow church mateys, Ive been wondering about something for quite some time now and Id like to know yer scarrrvy opinions on the matter. It seems to me that the gross of humanity is incapable of learning from past mistakes and we remain ruled by desire for gold and power. In light of this Ive always been fascinated by Huxleys Brave New World and the implication of a near-perfect world. Of course, genetically altering people to be happy and not question their position in society raises huge ethical question marks, but what if it is the only way to create a peaceful world? We tend to alter our surroundings to shape them to our needs, so why not shape humans? Would it not be beneficial to all? So I guess the question(s) is/are: would it be beneficial to alter human nature and if yes, would these benefits outweigh the ethical problems?
