Felt compelled to share this excellent quote: The Golfing - TopicsExpress

Felt compelled to share this excellent quote: The Golfing Machine was the first book im aware of to break the swing down into measurable positions through the sections. Mac Ogrady through Morad refined these positions making them much more specific references. It is this coding that makes taxonomy of the golf swing possible. Both deserve the credit for having the vision to set forth the framework for a system. They did so into a considerable head wind of prevailing wisdom that said one cannot learn the swing in sections as it is one movement. They deserve the credit for having that vision. Jim Mccleans the 8 step swing and David Leadbetters swing links were a response to this. We could have just as easily changed the titles and called them our own as some have done, but feel it best for the industry to standardize the titles and to pay respect to those who have came before us. As such, it is really those who follow the creators who use these references today. The copycat links and steps , who were not that invested in creating a system in the beginning, have fallen by the wayside or were on to the next thing. There have been a few posts on this forum questioning the efficacy of these Ps. (perhaps we should call them events the buzz word de jour, as to satisfy contemporary scientists. E1,E2,E3 might suffice) This is mostly done by jilted instructors who are continually trying to reinvent themselves. The problem they have, which is evident in their teaching, is they lack a means of making comparative analysis or systematic classification as they use only time as reference. Then in the height of all hypocracy, they want to align themselves which a much more primitive system of measuring, but using very technical equipment and a study in its infancy, citing scientific superiority while they do it.
