Fernando Torres has turned 30 today and Spanish daily AS has celebrated his birthday with a comprehensive interview of our record signing. Who could have told me that I was going to coincide with Rafa Benitez at two different English clubs?” Samuel Eto’o has undoubtedly moved ahead of Torres in the pecking order after some crucial goals. Even if the former Barca star moves on at the end of the season, Torres’ position will still be under threat. Jose Mourinho has hinted that Chelsea are likely to sign a top class centre forward in the summer. Diego Costa has been fighting alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for the Golden Boot award in Spain. Torres also rejected suggestions that Mourinho does not like Spanish players. According to him, this notion has followed the Portuguese boss after his final six months at Real Madrid, but without any truth. He continued: “Mourinho is a normal, hardworking person. He likes to have the concept of team above anything and he win titles wherever he goes. “No [hatred against Spaniards]. He has a good memory of Spain from his time at Real Madrid. His numbers, records and are all there. Of course, he does not have anything against the Spaniards.” Torres was also viewed as a pet signing by Roman Abramovich. The Spaniard did admit that he knows Abramovich on a personal level, but the relationship is no different to what other players in the squad have with the Russian. “Yes, occasionally comes here and is a very close person [with the club].
