Few day ago there was quite a bit of conversation regarding Tarks. The originator of Tarks was Guido Pat Tarquino. The one still open was the original location plus, over a number of years, he opened several others. Mr. Tarquino passed away in 2009 (if my memory is accurate). In retirement he worked as a funeral assistant at Fred Hunters. This is where he and I became good friends (he was my mentor at Hunters). Tark, as he was known to his multitude of friends, was a combat Marine serving in the South Pacific in WW II. He served with the 4th Marine Division and participated in the invasions of the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinan and Iwo Jima. He never talked about his experiences except to say, when i asked him how he managed to survive, I have no idea. All I can say is God Bless him and others like him, for if it was not for them surely we would not be enjoying the freedoms we have today. This is your history lesson for today.
