Few days ago I had idea to ask someone of J`s fans about translating this interview in English, but nice, that here are people to did it in time :) https://facebook/JAholaRockMusicianWithADifference/posts/901378719887346 Thanking to members of team - J. Ahola Rock Musician with a Difference and ADT - who translated from internet site suomiviihde.fi and shared translated interview of J. Ahola in they sites: =================================== Hi dear people , how is your weekend ? Here thanks to dear Sanna Tiaskorpis translation and some editing by Gerry and myself we can share the English translation for you of an interesting interview we shared a few days ago. Our gratitude to dear Sanna as know how tricky it is to translate from Finnish to English and we thank her warmly Here it is : Jarkko Ahola believes in a comeback for Heavy Rock Its been four years since Jarkko Ahola was the vocalist for Teräsbetoni. Yet he is still better known as the singer of Teräsbetoni than as a successful solo artist. Teräsbetoni existed for 6 successful years filled with top ranking, high album sales and not forgetting the Eurovision Song Contest Finale. Nowadays J has his own band AHOLA and also has released his second solo Christmas album Suojelusenkeli. - There is nothing wrong with having been made well-known by Teräsbetoni, but its been a long time since the band playing the circuit. I wish that being known as Jarkko Ahola would be enough. My first solo Christmas record sold platinum but the level of recognition as a solo singer is hard to report or know. Christmas or church singer Ahola would sound ridiculous. - J says laughingly. Current music is commercial mass production J thinks that nowadays music in Finland is quite restricted. The look of a new generation - For example: Long hair and Rock T-shirts of his time have been replaced by caps and over-sized excessive Bling T-shirts. The Rap-Scene is triumphant. Depending on the situation J could also do some rap but he would not record it. He cant be accused of lacking the courage to dare to do so but feels his lyrics and message would be missing. - I can always try something but I would have to say no to recording. The record labels would refuse and I am not able to do rap as I feel that there is well articulated fast speech involved and Im not very good at that. Singing with extended sustained notes {holding long notes} is more my kind of thing. - J says. Time changes but J thinks Heavy Rock could be possibly making a comeback. - I believe in comeback, heavy rock has done it so many times. As a music genre it is virile and its primal nature appeals most to young and old men, not so much to girls. - J thinks heavy musics decline started from main streaming in the 21st century. Its comeback would be hardly as strong as it was back then, but nonconformity is characteristic of heavy music. - When the Prime Minister is shown making the sign of the horns with Lordi, I feel heavy musics credibility has suffered badly. - Suojelusenkeli (Guardian Angel) is more than just a Christmas album. Over half of the songs are something else rather than Christmas material. J promises the album is very much like Finnish Christmas: Beautiful and bold, partly wild and yet hopeful. Choosing songs for the album was a long process, done mostly by pure intuition. - There were many songs to choose from. I had to think what I like and what would be suitable for this concept. There is opera, classic and pop music adapted to orchestral music. - Known by his unique singing skills J gets to show off his long sustain of notes in Kuopio with the symphony orchestra in December. What sort of gigs does J like the most himself? - It varies. If its a good day and everything going well thats the moment I like best, being myself. Maybe I have raised the bar too high as I feel that people always expect the very powerful and high notes from me. If its a bad day and everything not going well, it feels bad. Although all considering it may not appear to be so. Js own song Nuku vaan (Just Sleep) is also on his new album and this song has a Roy Orbison –like melody from the 60´s. - If some people think I only listen to heavy rock they are totally wrong. Actually I dont listen to it at all. New and piercingly loud heavy metal/ rock is just not my thing and it feels like it has clung to some past era repeating same clichés. I like more melodic rock. - Christmas songs have been engraved in people’s minds for years. Is it possible to create new classics? - Not looking good. No new classics have been born. Those Christmas songs we love, which are a little sad and gloomy are unbeatable. Also classics that were written by spectacular composers like Jean Sibelius would be very rare for anyone to reach his level. ========================================================= So I`m sharing this, especially in time, when J`s second solo album Suojelusenkeli issued. It`s interesting to get know what thinks Musician about his done work and what are thoughts for future. So there this interview by Jasmi Kuusisto / Photos: WMF in suomi (see at pages 14,15) suomiviihde.fi/archive/suomiviihde_Nettiextra_414.pdf
