Few golf shots ever leave me speechless but I witnessed one today. Playing Coosaw Creek near Charleston, SC Joe McLean of Flagstick sailed his approach over the elevated and heavily sloped 9th green and on to a neighbourhood road. It bounced along the asphalt to about 70 yards past the green. Seeing no out of bounds stakes, undaunted, Joe headed on to the road to play the shot. After dodging traffic he perfectly executed a pitch to the elevated green, hitting it into the bank, popping it up to land gently next to the tight pin that was 3 yards on to the the green from his direction. It trickled to about 8 feet past. Despite missing the putt it was an impressive display of touch. Did I mention he performed it with a nearly 100 year-old hickory shafted Niblick??? Yep, a Niblick. Dont try that at home.
