Few things are as traumatizing for a family as a loved one who goes missing — a son or daughter or parent disappearing without a trace. It happens hundreds of times a year in Canada, and sometimes the cases remain open for decades — wounds that never heal. Ottawa has announced that in 2016, it will begin funding a National DNA Databank for missing persons —using science to help close the books on family tragedies by putting a name on these anonymous remains. It’s a step that families, and police forces, say should have been taken years ago. 16x9 looks at some of the cases that could benefit from this databank. glbn.ca/CV5xw
