Every morning Fido accompanied his master to the train station located about 2 km from home. Young carpenter working in a small town in the area and to desplazase had to take the train every morning , returning to his village at 5.30 every afternoon. Fido was there waiting for Luigi , day after day. After leaping and barking express the joy of meeting his master , Fido was a little run and jump on the mountain all happy to get home. This daily routine was interrupted abruptly when Luigi was drafted into the army and sent to the Russian front in 1943. The interruption was for Luigi but not for Fido who was no longer in the mornings but if promptly presented every evening in the train station , awaiting the return of his beloved master. Fido hear faint far , the noise of the engine. Everything looked tense and hopeful the train stopped at the station. So going from car to car , waving his tail and he sniffing the ladders and passengers descended to identify any trace of his master. The train was leaving and people too. After waiting a while more , Fido , sad and dejected head down and tail between the legs, back solo home where the parents of Luigi still harbored a glimmer of hope of seeing his beloved son alive . . . Luigi never returned. It was more a victim of the Second World War killed tens of thousands of people , some sinners and criminals but most innocent . Months and years passed . In the early 50s, Fido had difficulty moving , could not escape the infirmities of old age, had arthritis . But Fido did not lose hope. Despite the pain and to mobilize the forces increasingly detracted , he continued his return convinced his master routine. The stretch of road that was before lightly in 15 minutes, now it took 2 hours, arriving home completely exhausted . It was a winter afternoon with strong winds and snow. Fido took his last steps on the white road , lurched and his noble heart stopped beating . . . The next day they found their poor frozen and snowy little body. The whole town knew Fido , everyone cried , everyone saw making his fruitless walks and knew what Fido was desperate . It was not difficult to convince that modest and good people to work with the erection of a statue dedicated to the memory of Fido, today located next to the railway station itself Fido visited daily , day after day for the rest of his life.
