Fifteen years ago today, voice actress Mary Kay Bergman lost a long battle with depression and took her own life. I never got to meet her, but I feel incredibly fortunate and privileged to have a friend in Dino, her husband, who has become one of my closest friends since I moved to the US seven years ago. Depression is a bastard. Depression lies to you. It tells you that youre unimportant, that nobody cares about you, that youd go unmissed if you were to vanish overnight. It tells you that nobody cares about your problems, so why bother talking to anyone? When youre depressed, it can be hard to dismiss these lies for the nonsense that they are. If this happens to you, if you ever feel that low, please do yourself a favor and call someone. Talk to someone. People will listen.
