Fifth Gear presenter Tiff Needell in collaboration with Volvo Trucks South Africa have decided to pit the FH against a Koenigsegg One:1. Its not your typical track duel as the competitors are a Volvo FH truck and the worlds first megacar, the Koenigsegg One:1. The main idea of the video is to showcase Volvos newly developed I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox which they say it’s actually based on sports car technology. As it name suggests, it has two dry clutches installed at the front of the gearbox and in normal operation one is idling while the other is engaged. The system can pre-select the next gear while driving in the current gear and when this happens, the currently engaged clutch is released at the same time when the previously idling clutch is being engaged, all for the purpose of providing quick gear changes without any power interruptions. In other words, the transmission allows the driver to select two gears at the same time and it represents the first implementation of a dual-clutch gearbox on a truck. Tiff Needell wanted to find out whether the Koenigsegg One:1 is fast enough to do two laps of the track in the time needed by the Volvo FH to complete one lap. The conclusion?
