Fifty years ago on this date I remember walking to school on a brisk sunny day. I was 13 years old and in the seventh grade st Miner Jr. High School in Arlington Hts., IL. It was a typical school day. After lunch I had a wood shop class. I recall our teacher telling us to shut off all machines and sit quietly at our benches. When he returned to the room his eyes were red and tears rolled down his cheeks. He calmly told us that President Kennedy had been shot. School was dismissed early. It was a quiet walk home. Silent as if even nature was awaiting the outcome that was unfolding in Dallas, Texas. By time I reached my house my mother was sitting in front of the small B&W Zenith TV set sobbing and crying. She told me the President had been shot and died a brief time ago. There are some things in life you will always remember....what song you danced with your spouse when you first started dating. Where the church is that you got married in, what hospit al you were at for the birth of your children, where you saw your favorite band live for the first and maybe only time. However, those of us old enough to remember, will always recall the where, what, and when we were on the day of JFKs death on November 22, 1963. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, rest in peace with God,...and Thank You....
