Fifty years ago, something very special happened. A little science fiction show was devised to be educational and entertaining. The main character was described as Part H.G Wells, C.S Lewis, the Wizard of Oz and Santa all rolled into one. He travelled through time and space in a little blue box and fought monsters andsaved the day. It was a series of firsts with the first Indian director and the first female producer this show was something wonderful. Over the years, this show has delighted and terrified children all over the world for fifty years. I remember the first time I saw it, i was very young and sat on my parents bed watching a flamboyant old man with martial arts defeat living window shop dummies. I still look at window shop dummies like they are going to come to life. I remember being wokenup early at my grandparents to be shown episodes. Of a man man with a scarf ot a man in cricket gear. And i loved it. The show came back in 2005 and i was so excited, the first monster was the window shop dummies again and I was brought back to when i was little. I have done and will always love this show. His face may change, the continuity may be a bit fast and loose, it may have had its ups and downs. But I love this show. Happy birthday Doctor Who. Here is to fifty years of Daleks, cybermen, autons, and rogue timelords. Of jelly babies and companions, sonic screwdrivers and police box time machines. Here is to another fifty years, here is to all the children who will grow up loving a doctor and playing it in play ground, to the same children who will grow up and have children of their own and show them the show they loved as a child. Here is to hiding behind the sofa and laughing and applauding the Doctors antics. Here is to Doctor Who, long may he travel in the fourth dimention. And thank you for being there.
