Fight the Fences! Sign the Petition! Those of us who grew up here remember the Glades before the Feds decided they couldnt trust the People of Florida to manage our own legacy. From its inception in 1960, ENP has been voraciously expansionist and indifferent to the historic use of the lands and the people around it. Ever quick to annex only to padlock the People out for DECADEs whilst they ruminate about inadequate funding and dependence on Washington and the lands and facilities languish and pythons flourish. They routinely alienate their most natural allies in conservation with heavy handed elitist decisions solely because they are indifferent to the people who actually use the lands and waters of South Florida. The Park views its role as that of an enforcement agency with the primary goal of restricting access, unaccountable to local authority, rather than promoting the experience of the natural realm. Peering through chain-link or playing audio dioramas and walking boardwalks will not long engender the depth of support by the South Floridians who bear the tax burden of the Everglades Forever.
