Fiji beat Papua New New Guinea very unconvincingly this morning in the Pacific Mini Games rugby sevens competition by 24-5. Handling errors, mistakes at break down and rucks and poor -tackling by Fiji became very noticeable. Mosese Saunivanua pulled a hamstring and wasn’t able to play after the first minute. There’s also concern about Ledua Ratumuri who had ice applied to his ribs and Benito Masilevu had been subbed early and his elbow iced. According to the management, the players will be alright for the game against Samoa. And in the match just finished, Fiji has lost to Samoa 19-12. Samoa led 14-0 at half time. Fiji squandered many chances as individualism crept in. Despite the loss Fiji is through to the semi-final and the last game against New Caledonia will be to ensure that they dont meet samoa in the semis. Manager Isei Rayawa says the players believe in themselves and they will be able to make it through the day. Rayawa also expressed concern about the little time given to Fiji to rest. Meanwhile, attempts to have hurdler jone Wainiqolo and weightlifter Tevita Tawai included in the team have been futile. Fiji plays New Caledonia this hour.
