File this one under outrageous: We in the Hudson Valley - TopicsExpress

File this one under outrageous: We in the Hudson Valley received some great news in yesterdays Regional Economic Development Councils announcement: our area received the largest awards in all of New York. I believe this is a reflection of the states commitment to the area and our state legislative delegations advocacy on behalf of economic development. Businesses are increasingly looking to the Hudson Valley because of our prime location, workforce, and ingenuity. One project, however, stands out from the rest given its scope and context. The Village of Kiryas Joel was awarded $600,000 toward getting its backwash filtration system up to code because its iron and manganese removal do not currently meet the requirements for sewer discharge, as described in the projects application. This follows another grant of nearly $600,000 two years ago that was awarded to Kiryas Joel to correct violations to its wastewater treatment plant. This award is nothing more than yet another taxpayer-funded bailout for the Village of Kiryas Joel to correct deficiencies in its infrastructure. The officials in Kiryas Joel ought to act responsibly - like any other municipal leaders - and follow environmental laws and regulations, not turn to the states taxpayers every time there is an issue with their sewer or water system. This grant is an outrage that never should have seen the light of day. Like/share if you agree. midhudsonnews/News/2014/December/12/REDC_KJ_Shoufis-12Dec14.html
