File this under the heading of context is everything. In the 1980s, everyone in the US got really excited about that exciting patriotic song by Bruce Springsteen, Born In The USA. Even President Reagan said he thought it sounded cool. Of course, no one bothered to get past that catchy hook and, you know, actually listen to the lyrics. Its a pretty strong anti-war protest song. But hey, context. So, last night, as were about to leave Downtown Disney, we stop in at the Family safe Friday Night Dance Party that happens in the amphitheater opposite the big Disney store. And the little three and four-years olds are bopping to some early hip-hop, a little Will Smith, etc. Then my needle scratch moment occurred... They started playing Blurred Lines. Yes, THAT Blurred Lines. And when the lyric You want to hug me...blurred lines... blasted out from the speaker, Im thinking... Hmmm. Context.
