#FileStory2 In Case you Missed it: Embu residents were shocked recently after young men forcefully stripped a man said to be uncircumcised, tied him to a mkokoteni (hard-pushed cart) and paraded him in the streets of the town. The happening spread fast like bush fire and soon a crowd gathered to witness the bizarre incident. The young men then went round asking people to contribute money to take the man to a clinic to get circumcised. However, the members of the public were unwilling to contribute and openly asked if they had to undress the man in public in order to get money. On the other hand, while some women and girls avoided getting near the naked man, a few seemed to enjoy it. Some people argued that stripping the man naked was inhuman, adding that they should have first sought to know his background and the reason he was not cut. In the crowd, some youths used phone cameras to take photos of the man and posted them on social networking sites, drawing condemnation. “This is not acceptable and the culprits should be punished! Circumcision is one’s choice and our youth should know this! I am ashamed that we keep getting such embarrassing news from the region. Where are the leaders and law enforcement…oh my!” cried one woman. Finally, the young men set the man free after realizing the public was against their action.
