#Film Destination Planet Negro 20th December, BFI Southbank Plus Q and A with Toyin Agbetu, Ashley Clack and Dr Althea Legall-Miller The location: Booker T. Washington University in Tuskegee, Alabama The occasion: A secret meeting of African-American leaders of the time, including such notables as W.E.B. Dubois and George Washington Carver. Under discussion is the Negro problem in the United States. The logical and only real solution is presented by Professor Warrington Avery: Black people will need to leave not just the United States, but the planet. Avery, portrayed by Willmott, also the movies writer and director, tells the group of his plan to take a trip to Mars to check the feasibility of setting up a refuge there. Narrowly escaping law officials, who have found out about his plan to remove their cheap labor force, he is soon on his way with his scientist daughter, a pilot and an 8-foot-tall robot who talks in jive.
