Final post and report. I didn’t buy my 06 S60R for its performance or its potential street prowess. It was however a pleasant byproduct of the specific model which I did purchase because it had what many other cars didn’t; character, comfort, ergonomics that fit the driver in the manner most have never known, and last but certainly not least, good looks. I have yet to see a sedan as pleasing to the eye. So pleasing it is, the fact is it looks better than most coupes. The reason I didn’t buy the 330Ci (or similar) or the A4 or the G35 or G37 or the many other cars that I sat in and or drove during my 3 month quest was the first three I mentioned. The R had all of them beat by a mile in those categories. Heated seats was on my list but not mandatory. Transmission type was not on the list. I would have been happy with either but dealing with traffic in the Puget Sound makes an auto so much more pleasant. Many people malign the automatic transmission as not being a performance item in a car that should have one, and I don’t disagree with that but in no way should an AT disqualify this cars performance and prowess. Yes, Volvo is losing sales because they do not import the MT versions of their cars and that will keep a small percentage of potential buyers from purchasing the “alternative” Swedish option. I guess what I’m saying is I buy cars for slightly different reasons and what is important to me could be a pleasant byproduct for you. This is just my opinion and I’m not looking to debate…we all have our opinions and preferences. The first tank of gas is gone in my 2015 T-5 AWD and while I continue to learn and be comfortable with the technology, I am completely happy with the comfort, ergonomics, power and torque (as one would expect from the T-5), the powerful premium HK sound system and surprisingly, the gas mileage. 26 mpg on the first tank of mixed driving and I get to fill it with regular unleaded. As for the new shape of the sheet metal and trim, I am already at peace with it and find the front and rear to be not only very Volvo but extremely attractive. So I drop from the ranks of the family of R ownership, but remain a fan and in love with the car. As one of Volvo’s few true muscle cars it is very special indeed. Peace and Volvo for life! Howard
