Final thoughts regarding The Goldfinch: An imperfect contemporary - TopicsExpress

Final thoughts regarding The Goldfinch: An imperfect contemporary classic. Donna Tartt has drawn an extraordinary cast of characters who will stick with me for a good long time and her passion for art and furniture and New York City took me for an astonishing ride and has reignited my love for reading; which is remarkable in and of itself because Im super lazy when it comes to picking up a book. What I didnt like so much was when she strained for some sort of metaphysical truth via grafs and grafs of tedious word salad. It does the story no favors, shes best when she cuts to the quick. Also Boris dialogue in Copenhagen is way too expository and unBoris-like. Lots and lots of name-dropping which took me out of the story. All in all though a great, four-star read. I miss it already.
