Final update of the day: after nearly 24 hours of being without - TopicsExpress

Final update of the day: after nearly 24 hours of being without fluids, baby Jenna was finally able to have her first feeding through the NG tube. At that point she was completely dehydrated and lethargic. We were so concerned about her. The various departments of the hospital simply couldnt coordinate with one another to get what she needed to her room at the proper times. Miscommunications took place every step of the way. To make matters worse, the wrong formula was ordered and then, when the correct formula arrived (an hour later), the pump broke. It took 15 hours from the time she arrived at the hospital until they finally gave her her first dose of fluids. Completely unacceptable and dangerous, as well. Why they didnt put her on an IV until they were able to give her that first feeding, I have no idea. The GI doc is going to be livid. Please continue to pray for Jenna to improve. She took such a rapid turn tonight that it scared us. Im sure it was just a combination of shock, dehydration and adjusting to the tube. And exhaustion. Speaking of exhaustion, I arrived home tonight and still had to take care of two large baking orders. 97 cookies later, 31 of them are iced and decorated to be picked up at 9 AM by a customer. The other 66 will be painted tomorrow night when I arrive home from the medical center. For now, this old girl is climbing into bed and sleeping like a log.
