Finally back home after an intense back to back 3 cities business - TopicsExpress

Finally back home after an intense back to back 3 cities business trip in 5 days. One of the most memorable experience I had in this trip was when my Myanmar friends shared that they respect our founding father, Mr. Lee and his team a lot during our meeting. In their own words, if they have a leadership team like we had back in the 1960s, Myanmar (or Burma) will be a vastly different country now. Instead, their junta chose a different path and closed their door to the outside world from 1960s to 1998. Even with abundance of natural resources, most people in Myanmar are still living below the poverty line today. How about us? 3rd World to 1st World in economic term in less than 50 years without natural resources except for a strategic location as a trading port. Clean water, well developed public infrastructure, proper education and transport system. Yes, it is true that Singapore is imperfect. Our government policy is imperfect. Our system is imperfect. But is there a perfect system in this world? No. The only thing we can and must do is to continue to work closely together and improve. Every time I travel back from a developing country, I feel more grateful to our founding leaders, their team and our pioneer generation who worked hard and sacrificed so much for this country. And I can relate why it is easy for us to forget where we come from and crumble from our own limited success as a nation. This is because some of us might have forgotten how Singapore look like in the 50s to 70s. Go to Myanmar and you will travel back in time. I am very sure your complaints will be a lot lesser. We are indeed very small and vulnerable. Any self complacency might lead on to a slippery path to non existence as a nation. Lets respect our elderly and our pioneer leaders and work together for the betterment of our children. P/S: Please follow me instead of sending me friend requests as my account is almost full. Thank you. :)
