Finally got around to watching the Sonic Highways episode on - TopicsExpress

Finally got around to watching the Sonic Highways episode on Washington DC. Very cool to see inside Inner Ear Studio and listen to Don Zientara, a true cultural hero, talk about transcending his own biases and recording Bad Brains and early DC punk bands. And great to see Skip Groff and pics of the old Yesterday and Today Records, a stomping ground as seminal to me as any church or playground. Great interviews with Bad Brains and Trouble Funk. (Too much Foo Fighters, earnest politicizing, and Mark Anderson.) Wish I could go back in time and attend one of the Trouble Funk/Minor Threat shows, but it just wasnt in my worldview then. To watch this as someone born and raised in the DC suburbs who left in the late 1980s and never came back, well, its a kind of bittersweet anthropology. Great stuff.
