Finally got called in about 4:30...nurse did her stuff...and then the Dr. came in. We finally got to see this thing by my lung. Yes...it needs to come out. Dr. said I am a good candidate for surgery and that he would perform the surgery...I am just not sure if I want to have it done in Corpus Christi. Not that I feel he is incompetent...but...he said I have a cancer like tumor and if not treated, it will turn into cancer, and also said if they dont get it all, it will come back and also this type of tumor doesnt metastasize...well, he was right on one thing...it needs to be surgically removed. However...he was wrong on the fact that what I have is cancer like:...it is cancer!!! Also, it can and sometimes does metastasize to other organs, the liver being a main one. Also, he said if they were able to remove it all, Id be good to go! Nope...there is no cure, just treatments...and yes...you can live a long life, but you still will have to have routine blood tests and CT Scans and/or Octreo Scans etc. And I think you still have to have some kind of medication, as well. Neuroendocrine Cancer is cancer, but different from other cancers and the way it is treated...and also the way it is classified. So, there lies my hesitation of having surgery in Corpus Christi...because I do feel he is a great surgeon, but not real knowledgeable in NETS. I will know more on the 23rd, after I see a specialist who is on a very prominent team of Neuroendocrine doctors in New Orleans. On a bright note, we have come a long way from being told it was inoperable...to being able to have surgery. If Dr. Ramirez confirms that, then I will probably be having surgery sometime this fall...just not sure of where, when or the specifics. :)
