Finally got outta the house today and did some weed eating in - TopicsExpress

Finally got outta the house today and did some weed eating in advance of tomorrow’s mowing. Went to visitation hours at a local funeral home and sat with family and friends of a good friend who, at a healthy 57, died of a massive heart attack a few days ago. I did, however, experience something that I viewed as humor. Before tackling the weed eater I made the short two and half minute drive to my favorite restaurant for a late breakfast. I sat in a booth next to a married couple Ive known since junior high school, placed my order, picked up my phone and signed into Facebook. A few minutes later a man (Dude) we all know came in, stopped at their booth and: Husband: Dude! How is it going? Wife: Hey Dude... Dude: How yall? Things are good. Husband: What have you been doing? Dude: Been having some fun. You need to go look in the back of my truck. I went drum fishing down on the river and I caught well over 20. And there’s one that weighs almost 30 pounds. Husband: What are you going to with drum? Dude: I’m going to sell them to the fish market. Wife: Who buys drum? They have so many bones in them. Dude (very low but loud enough to be heard): Black people. They know how to cook them. They shot the breeze for a minute or so and he said good bye and left. There were two other couples sitting in the two booths across from us looking at me as if they knew I was going to say something during the conversation. A couple minutes after Dude moved on to the other section of the restaurant: Me: Excuse me, but I want to ask you something. Who did he say buys and cook drum? Husband: He said Black people. You know who that is don’t you? Me: Yeah I do. I was just double checking that he said Black people. I started to interrupt and disprove that by telling him I was Black and I don’t buy or cook drum. Husband: I know that’s right. Any other time it would have been bought to his attention to what he said and how he said it. Even though he tried to whisper the words Black people, this was one of those instances you just shake your dayum head and continue doing whatchu doing….
