Finally got the plug gaps corrected. After installing the - TopicsExpress

Finally got the plug gaps corrected. After installing the plugs new a few days ago with the gap at about triple the spec (misread of the feeler gauge) and running it for about 15 minutes, I let it sit for three days and tried starting it again today, which took 20 minutes of kicking before it would run. Afterward, I removed the plugs and saw that they were coated with black, which wiped off fairly easily. I suppose the big gaps and the dirty plugs added up to *very* hard starting. After getting the gaps right, of course it started right up with the engine already being warm. Thats when I recorded this video. About four hours later after it was fully cooled, it started on the second kick, with about half choke. I invite your feedback on how it sounds now. It coughs/snaps just a little on accelerating, but otherwise is running great, idling perfectly at 1200 rpm without stalling. The coughing makes me wonder what I should look at next. Plug wires on all four a firmly connected. Since the bike is (1) recently restored (by a prior owner) and (2) *new* to me, I am planning to go through the fuel system, air intake, and carbs, all when I can manage the time -- likely over the course of the next three months.
