Finally, the rains have subsided here in Colorado. The devastation - TopicsExpress

Finally, the rains have subsided here in Colorado. The devastation in areas all around me is unbelievable. The areas around Boulder, Estes Park and Longmont have really been hard hit. Many people are out of their homes and will be for some time. Others have had their homes destroyed by the floods and will have to rebuild. We thought that the wild fires of a year or so ago were bad but nothing as bad as this. I am fortunate in that none of the flooding affected me or anyone in my immediate areas. Boulder and some of the other areas are northwest of me (I live in a far southern suburb) are some 40 or 50 miles away. They unfortunately are close to rivers and creeks that went over their banks and caused the flooding. But anytime you get 10 to 20 inches of rain over a short time you are going to have flooding whether you have bodies of water in the area or not. The heavy rains were somewhat localized and we just did not get them here in this area. We did have lighter rain every day for 2 weeks though. An area I used to live in, Aurora, was hit hard the end of last week with lots of street flooding. The storms streamed up from Mexico beginning the middle of July and lasted until just a day ago. They call them "the monsoons" and I can remember them inundating Tucson many years ago. We were fortunate in that they seemed to go either west or east of us here in Highlands Ranch. Say a prayer for all the hundreds (or thousands) of people who were affected.
