Finally watched The Worlds End, the third film in Edgar Wrights - TopicsExpress

Finally watched The Worlds End, the third film in Edgar Wrights Cornetto Trilogy, which Im happy to say is easily my favorite comedy of the year! Shaun of the Dead was near perfect to me (I say near in that had they not spelled Shaun with a u, but rather a w, I couldve bought the hell out of some Shawn of the Dead t-shirts back in the day), so taking that, on top of my love for both the 1956 & 1978 versions of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers films, as well the films of director John Carpenter, this movie almost felt tailor made for me (I cant help but also feel that Wright & Pegg drew inspiration from Halloween III: Season of the Witch, another favorite of mine, as well)! Simon Pegg & Nick Frost are both terrific together, proving to me they work so much better under the skillful direction of Wright, their longtime collaborator (as opposed to when they went on without him in their lackluster movie, Paul, made a few years back). Theyve made for such a wonderful comedy duo over the last 15 years, and what amazes me is the diversity of their roles together, rather than them hanging on to one tired bit. The one who really stood out to me in this though is Eddie Marsan, as theyre hapless friend Peter, whose comedic timing in this was pitch perfect - the drunker his character gets as the film progresses the more hysterical he becomes (I could also go on about how much I adore Martin Freeman as an actor as well...but Ill save that for next month when the next Hobbit movie opens!). I, for one, hope the Cornetto films dont stop with this one if they continue to stay this good - though its a shame this film only made $40,000,000 for its entire run, while a crap-fest like Hangover III makes that in just one weekend!
