Finding some great news of sterling young character, today columnist Deborah L Born has brought a story of hope to Free Range Talk this beautiful September Saturday. _______ "When I heard about this young man in the news last night it was a feel good moment — one that goes a ways to make up for all the troubles so prevalent today. It is good to have someone stick up for what’s right. T. Steelman of Addicting Info feels the same. Just another late August day at the Hopkins, MN Dairy Queen turned into an opportunity for one man to do the right thing. Manager Joey Prusak was working the cash register and taking orders when a moral dilemma presented itself. He was helping a blind man at the counter when his customer dropped a $20 bill as he was paying. Prusak saw the woman behind his customer stoop down and scoop the bill up. He says he thought she was going to return it to the blind customer but what she did next made Prusak angry: “I expected to her to be like ‘Oh, sir, here you go.’ But she just stood there and watched him walk by and she then put it in her purse.” When the woman approached the counter, Prusak asked the her to return the money. She refused, lied and said it was hers, that she had dropped it. They had words. Exasperated, Prusak told the woman to either return the money or leave the store because he was not going to serve someone so disrespectful. She stormed out.” The woman shamed herself in this incident, first by not returning the money, and then by lying. And, the young man should be doubly proud as he not only called her out, but gave the blind guy 20 dollars out of his own pocket. The boy next door is the champion here , with his self-effacing “Aw, shucks, anyone would have done the same” attitude. This modest, mid-western, teenaged Dairy Queen manager meant to keep his good deed quiet, but one of his customers reported him. Photo from WCCO TV. No, Joey, a lot of people would have looked the other way. Your deed deserves to be celebrated and it will be. Go on and prosper."
