Fine first novel, in great need of an editor, December 31, 2013 By Grady HarpThis review is from: Denver Demon (Kindle Edition) Wyoming native Donovan Edwards is a multitalented young man with degrees in Criminal Justice and in Psychology, a fine combination matrix from which to draw this, his first novel. Additional input from his experiences as a bartender, and singer and a songwriter also add to the theme of this novel. It is clear he has the talent for composing interesting stories and the fact that he has entered the genre of gay fiction also suggests that he is unafraid to write what he wants, and that the audience will surely follow. DENVER DEMON is both a thriller and a horror story that just happens to be focused on the gay community of Denver, Colorado. Edwards opens his book with chapters that immediately plunge the reader into the fantasies turned gore that capture the readers attention: it is a fine setup for a story to lead in with the grisly murders that draw the main character Wyoming lad David Arbor to return to Denver to investigate the onerous murders of his friends by a crazed serial killer. So far so good. The writing style is commensurate with the theme and the pacing of the story pushes the speed limit and that is good. The frustrating problem with this book is the lack of an editorial eye to correct the large number of grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors - they are so frequent as to distract from the actual story. It seems like this is another case of a young talented writer rushing to publish via the eBook avenue and not taking the time a publishing house would take to make the novel clear and free of blemishes. Lets see if Donovan Edwards pays attention to the aspects that assure more credibility in what he has to write.
