Finished with radiation oncologist. Wow more involved then I thought . Will schedule a planning meeting to map out the area radiation oncolgist wants to treat, once my drains are removed. I think she said 36 treatments M-F. Plan includes ct scan in the position they want to treat. And I am getting 3 tattoos (small dots). The side affects - there were many but most were very low occurrences. Not getting radiation of the under arm but the nodes by the clavicle /neck. Now I know why some women get their thyroid or part of their thyroid fried! Still low occurrence. That area also houses the nerves for the arm and the arm could become week / other issues. And If lungs get hit, part of the lung under the breast could be scared bit there is meds to for the short of breath or dry cough . The heart is also in the area that needs to be radiated, they do everything they can do not to hit the heart. The mapping is suppose to keep the above from happening :) The other side affects were little things. Fatigue (been tired since the end of Oct 2013). Red swollen breast and or chest wall. Sunburn Earliest treatment date is 4/8. But maybe after that. Treatment can not start on a Friday.
