Finn Harps. The Way Forward ? I have read with interest over the last ten days or so many newspaper articles and posts on Facebook in relation to the season just gone bye at Finn Park. These articles and posts have in the main been very positive about the season just completed be they from players and or fans. This is to be welcomed that there is a positive attitude out there and that there is a acknowledgment that the club has become more professional in its preparation of teams and dealing with players and the welfare of players etc etc. It is also acknowledged by all that with progress on the Stadium. The establishment of a Academy the progress of the Schools programme that things are progressing at the club and that things are moving in the right direction But where to from here for Finn Harps ? In my own opinion Finn Harps have reached a crossroads and there is little time to stop at this crossroads and reflect where we go next Licensing application must be completed and returned by the 7th of November. A complete Budget for 2015 must be in place by mid Jan and agreed with the F.A.I. The key part of this budget must show the expenditure the club will make on player during 2015 and how they propose to fund that expenditure in a clear and unambiguous way that can be monitored clearly on a bimonthly return made to the F.A.I. And there I would suggest is the biggest challenge facing Finn Harps to be realistic to compete for promotion I would suggest that a minimum of 65K in additional spending is required for the 2015 season This is not a figure that I have plucked out of the air it is based on fact It is based on discussions during the past season on what are realistic packages can be ut in place to attract the type of player to Finn Park who can boost our promotion challenge, we must also ensure (that as is the case at the moment) that no player who attends three training sessions a week and has to take a Friday off work without pay is in fact at a loss because they are playing for Finn Harps Donegal’s Senior Club Before any of the above decisions are made there are a number of issues that I would suggest need to be dealt with and answerers found to the following questions 1 Are there more people out there prepared to assist at Finn Harps be it at board leval or assisting in the various projects ? (The present numbers and commitment is not sustainable) 2 Do our supporters and the general soccer public out there want Finn Harps to make the financial commitments to challenge for promotion? 3 If the answer to the above question is yes. Then are there people out there prepared to assist financially to bring this about or assist in the gathering of this finance ? 4 Is it the case that the fans/public are happy for the club to operate inside a budget that is ’ safe’ and minimal this path has implications on the pitch I am putting all this out there now to generate some discussion on what should happen. In fact I think that it is imperative that this matter is discussed by all involved in soccer in Donegal. However as I pointed out earlier from the dat6es above there is a limited time to have this discussion and reach a viable conclusion
