Fire Damages Building on West Franklin Street For Release - September 14, 2013 On Friday, September 13, 2013 around 11:00 p.m., individuals passing by alerted firefighters at the Pioneer Hook and Ladder Company (Truck 1) on W. Franklin Street in Hagerstown of a building on fire in the block. Firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from a business at 11 W. Franklin Street. The building houses “Un -B- Weaveable”, a hair salon business. Firefighters from all Hagerstown Fire Department stations, the Long Meadow Volunteer Fire Company, Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, Community Rescue and Washington County Emergency Services Air Unit and Rehab Unit responded to the single-alarm blaze. No injuries were reported. In addition to the business, the apartments above the business and the neighboring apartment building were damaged. The Hagerstown Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of this blaze, but primary indications are that this is an un-intentional fire starting at appliances near a work station. Occupants of the neighboring building were able to return to their apartments; however, two units above the business will not be able to be occupied. Those tenants reported having other places to stay and did not require additional assistance. The last of the Fire Department units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
