Fire Weather Warning for the Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney Region and Illawarra/Shoalhaven fire areas → Weather Situation A front will move through most of New South Wales on Thursday. The front will be accompanied by high cloud but conditions will still become windy in some areas, especially over the ranges in central and southern parts. Winds will be from the northwest ahead of the front tending southwest behind it over the land and southerly along parts of the coast. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of the front northeast from the Hunter to the northern inland, although it will remain dry in the far northeast near the QLD border. → For Thursday 17 October: Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire areas: Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney Region and Illawarra/Shoalhaven The NSW Rural Fire Service warns that any bushfire that starts has the potential to threaten lives and destroy homes. → The Rural Fire Service advises you to: • Check your bushfire survival plan - Now. • Monitor the fire and weather situation in any way you can: through rfs.nsw.gov.au and bom.gov.au, television or radio. • Call Triple Zero if you see a fire. → The Rural Fire Service advises that if you are in an area of Severe Fire Danger: • If you plan to leave finalise your options and leave early on the day • Only stay if your home is well prepared and you can actively defend it • Prepare for the emotional, mental and physical impact of defending your property - if in doubt, leave.
