Fire has destroyed several historic buildings in the northern NSW town of Nimbin this morning. Emergency services were called to Cullen Street about 3.30am (Wednesday 13 August 2014), after fire was seen in two timber buildings. Fire & Rescue NSW attended the scene and extinguished the blaze; however, two buildings – both built in the 1920s – have been destroyed. Neighbouring buildings have also sustained damage. A crime scene has been established and specialist forensic investigators will be examining the site once it has been deemed safe to enter. The fire is being treated as suspicious. Anyone with information about the fire is urged to contact Lismore Detective or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
