First Call for Papers: IMEKO TC1-TC7-TC13 Joint Symposium 2014 MEASUREMENT SCIENCE BEHIND SAFETY AND SECURITY 3-5 September, 2014 in Madeira, Portugal Deadline for Submissions: January 15, 2014 IMEKO TC1-TC7-TC13 Joint Symposium will be focused on the theme "Measurement Science Behind Safety and Security" and serve as a discussion forum for the exchange on the latest research findings and innovations related this theme. Original contributions related to this theme and fitting to the following areas are welcomed: Fundamentals of Measurement Science Vocabulary of Measurement Science Measurement Uncertainty Measurement in Physics and Engineering Measurement in Social Sciences Measurement in Life Sciences Measurement in Everyday Life Measurement Education Invited talks will give an overview of the general theme in different applications as well as covering new frontiers in the field. Contributed oral and poster presentations are planned with ample time for questions and answers. Parallel sessions will be restricted to the possible minimum. The conference venue, the VIDAMAR Resort & Conference Centre, is located over the sea in the South Coast of Madeira Island, in Funchal, Portugal. It is a high quality five star resort hotel and conference venue, with the perfect conditions to held such an event. The late summer conference dates were chosen to as an excellent time to visit Madeira Island, while avoiding high Easter or mid-summer lodging and airfare costs. Moderate registrations fees, and modest accommodation rates make the conference an excellent choice for researchers and is relatively accessible for international travelers. Madeira Island is called the "Pearl of the Atlantic" and it is a well-known tourist locations with plenty of attractions to be explored by the Symposium participants and accompanying persons: from off-the-road mountain expeditions, to whale watching, levada walks and cultural heritage.
