First, I want to say that the name Keetoowah belongs to ALL - TopicsExpress

First, I want to say that the name Keetoowah belongs to ALL Cherokees without regard to blood quantum, cultural knowledge or ability to speak the language. I saw here on Recaps where someone said that the UKB was the only federally recognized Tribe after they organized under the OIWA in 1949. I would point out that the treaties between the Cherokee Nation and the US government that are still in full force and effect today are certainly federal recognition of the Cherokee Nation under our 1839 Constitution. Also, the President of the United States of America appointed Cherokee Chiefs from 1906 until 1970 and recognized their authority to represent the Cherokee Nation in matters between the two Nations. The UKB is a reality and I do not see them as a threat to the continuity of the Cherokee Nation with which the treaties are made. However, it is certain that the UKB poses a great threat to the continuity of the appointed Cherokee government that was established by the US in 1906 and continues today as the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Yes, Im saying the CNO was only altered into a constitutional government in 1975 after the passage and implementation of the 1970 Principal Chiefs Act whereby the Cherokee People were granted the ability to choose the Chief the federal government recognized. The CNO is still a conductor of federal dominance over the Cherokee People and not connected or a continuation of the Cherokee Nation of 1839. So now we have two federally recognized bands of Cherokees that remain in contention and fighting over the rights of sovereignty that do not exclusively belong to either.
