First I would like to thank everyone (11000+) who came to the MAIN EVENT last night. It was the largest event of its kind in Toronto . With that being said, since no one has EVER done an event the size of this there will be hiccups. I waited purposely for a few hours to observe the comments good or bad. I notice many of the comment that were negative coming from people involved in another event or ppl whom are friends of them. To this I will say- some events do better than other events. A professional promoter/Dj knows this and will accept that this is a part of the industry that we are in. The ones that talk crap or try to imply things when things dont go their way lack the maturity and class to be successful over the long term in this industry. Look at what their message is it will give you insight into who they really are .I wont talk anymore about that. Now since I have been involved in events in Trinidad that are even larger than the Main event and working with and job-shadowing the legends (ISLANDSTYLE) that have put me on events like this in the past I can tell you this... now pay attention... ready....here goes.. YOU CANNOT PLEASE 12000 people . let me repeat this.. YOU CANNOT PLEASE 12000 people. People think that you do an event like this and you will become rich. Far from it. this was an event that needed thousands of ppl TO BREAK EVEN.. See what I said to break even. Here is the number one complaint from last night Why did the bar close so early? Contrary to what most people think-The promoters NEVER GET MONEY FROM THE BAR- That goes to the owners of the venue-and the owners of the venue make the rules regarding the bar and how the bar should be set up. Their venue their rules. If you want to hold an event in their venue then you have to abide by their terms and conditions as well as what the peel region police dictate in the contract. Now most smarmy ppl will ask why cant you just go somewhere else? .... Ah if only life was that simple...Here is another thing most fete people dont know about our events... Ready for this one??? Here goes.... VENUE OWNERS DONT WANT US (Caribbean ppl/Minorities) IN THEIR VENUES.. I must be joking right??? I wish I was.. In doing events there are usually two sets of conditions.. One for mainstream (Top 40/EDM) promoters/djs and the other for us.. We pay more for the venue and get less concessions in return. We have to deal with Draconian police rules and regulations that are applied unevenly to our market than in the other markets and when silly things happen at our events the police use it as a basis to close/shutdown the event. Things that would go unnoticed at other events could shut down our events. So there is a reluctance to do these types of events because there is a very good chance you will lose your shirt and for you to actually make money the event has to move flawlessly. The guys that brought you the Main event have never done something on this level (actually no one has done something on this level in a long time) and to see what they accomplished was extraordinary. They were called Rookies by some of the ppl involved in other events and yes-in this context they are Rookies-And very good ones at that. They will record and analyze the good/great comments and the poor/bad comments and will try their utmost to improve the solid foundation that they set last night. I have worked with these guys in various forms on much smaller club events and I can say that I am extremely proud of the bar that was set by them last night. These guys/ladies could have just played it safe and done the regular club event for a few hundred people and made a guaranteed profit but they all united as one and shot for the stars.. Well done.... Well done... (except for the VIP-we will talk about that one later lol) Kev-Soca Monarchs International
