First Nations, saltspringers, archaeologists and others have been working diligently on grace islet since 2006. And more urgently since 2012 when the first talk of development started. This has been opposed the whole way along and only since building began in early June has there been enough news coverage to bring it out into the light. First Nations have to constantly and repeatedly fight these types of battles with limited resources, with slim to no margins of success dealing with the colonialist policies that still exist strongly in 2014. We are all rising up as a community in solidarity with first nations and local levels of government in support to say no more. We are entering an age of reconciliation and lifting up of our first peoples culture and beliefs. Rhiannon Bennett: \o/ raise my hands to those on the water today. Thank you for sharing such a powerful video clip. The assumption that people should be making is that we never sold/signed-away/gave-away our lands especially our burial grounds and we have never stopped fighting to have them returned. People should also know that for a very long time we werent able to hire lawyers, gather in groups of more than three, speak our languages or practice our cultures. Did you know that people have had to buy back their ancestors? Buy back land that was never sold to ensure loved ones are able to be treated with respect and dignity. Lessons I have learned is that the current Liberal government continues to follow policy that perpetuates cultural genocide in BC. They still treat us like second class citizens. youtube/watch?v=Clns8IQ4mPk&sns=em
