First high profile patient for me at the jail (which I obviously per my job cannot disclose any specifics)... found myself feeling very conflicted. I had allowed media and popular opinion on fb to paint one picture and then was confronted with a whole different perspective and specifics that of course are not known to the public... even media. Now I try despite the crime to treat every patient I care for with kindness and respect... which isnt always easy if I accidentally see the charges I so carefully avoid looking at... and I know many people with medias sway would have been cold... but I couldnt. I felt for my patient. This job is a bit confusing emotionally, ethically and morally. Today I can only reflect on myself and just be proud of who I am... and hope, even in the smallest way... I helped this person. Got my first thank you from an inmate this week. Imagine my surprise when an inmate asked permission to express his thanks, approached me and said I was a blessing and he couldnt thank me enough. I am just happy to have brought a little light into anothers life a made a difference. Also felt good to know... I got through to someone.
