First of Two Italian WWII Explorations today. I ventured South to Anzio - the Normandy of Italy. I found local cemeteries, but chose to visit the American one in Nettuno, Italy (South of Rome) and next to Anzio. The stories of self sacrifice brought me to tears - literally. The pic of just ONE of the fields, the Medal of Honor winner, the Tuskegee Airmen, and the Jewish Soldier all rest together. 23 sets of brother and an entire air crew all lie next to one another. What blows me away is the amount of people touched by one single death. These men, the wounded, and lets NOT forget the unwounded - are amazing - the Greatest Generation? Guess we would need another World (and grasp that word - world...) War to answer that question...and from what I have experienced in my lifetime, coupled with the stories of my Fathers WWII, Korean, and Vietnam stories - I think Ill let these fine men keep that title.
